Welcome to Dewi Sri Guesthouse
From the moment my husband and I laid eyes on this run-down property in Mataram City, Lombok, we instantly fell in love.
Though badly in need of repair, it’s charm and character really shone through.
From pretty french windows and timber window shutters, to terazzo-tiled floors and spacious living areas, it was if we were being called to bring this faded beauty back to life.
The landlord was more than happy to come to terms. Six years and a global pandemic later, the result is Dewi Sri Guesthouse, our little piece of paradise in Mataram City.

It has long been touted as the ‘next Bali’, but Lombok offers its own version of Indonesian culture and society

Lombok is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Indonesia. Here is a short list of our faves.

Lombok is blessed with an abundance of beautiful waterfalls, thanks largely to the rugged, rain-forested terrain descending from Mt Rinjani.

Lake Anak Segara with Mt Rinjani in the background. Standing at 3726 metres, Mt Rinjani is Indoneia’s second tallest volcano.

The terraced rice fields of Tete Batu offer travellers a glimpse of what Ubud might have been like before mass-tourism.

In addition to the majestic beauty of Lombok’s rainforests and coastline, Lombok is surrounded by literally hundreds of smaller islands

Mataram is the capital city of Lombok and is made up of four precincts – Ampenan, Mataram, Cakranegara and Sweta

Ampenan has been a central meeting point for fishermen and traders from all over Indonesia since the early 14th century.

The Sasak and Balinese communities of Mataram share a cultural history which has left an indelible mark on the city.

The Sasak people of Lombok have a number of traditional dishes for visitors to enjoy. The following is a brief

All around Mataram as in the rest of Indonesia, street food vendors prepare some of the simplest, cheapest and tasiest

Traditional arts, including handicrafts made from locally-sourced materials, still form an integral part of daily life in villages across Lombok,

The native Sasak people of Lombok have a number of musical instruments and performance arts that reflect their rich culture

The Indonesian island of Lombok, has a unique and fascinating history, if for no other reason than it’s geological origins.
